MARATHON AND 1/2 MARATHON - CHEERING THE TURN INTO THE UTM CAMPUS

Thousands of runners headed south on Mississauga Rd from Burnhamthorpe Rd. Hundreds of folks cheered them on as they ran south and turned east into the UTM Campus. "It was extra special to have World Masters Athlete, Earl Fee (HoF 2006) join us to encourage the runners. Earl holds over 60 Masters Athletics World Records in track events," shared Iain, who was also on hand with witty signs and a variety of noisemakers to keep things interesting.

"It's exciting to see the first runner coming towards you, says Ginelle; but it's the first big wave of runners that makes you realize that this is a world class event. It give's you chills to see, and hear, thousands of people pounding the pavement, literally. The cadence of all those runners is inspiring. As they head past you into the beautiful UTM Campus the backdrop of forested areas along the Credit River is magnificent. The 1/2 Marathoners running out of the south end, at The Collegeway, and heading north is even more beautiful. As the road rises through forested land on both sides, these runners are heading back, uphill, towards Celebration Square, while their full Marathon counterparts head south, down Mississauga Rd, through more winding, forested pavement, not far from the Credit River. The 1/2 Marathoners are troopers heading up that hill. That's when we cranked up the music and cheered really loudly," said Ginelle. "You could see from their smiles that they really appreciated the support," she added.
